The clouds that began to move in towards the end of our Red Cones hike looked promising so we went out for sunset. I had fond memories of Dunderberg Meadows and the colorful Aspen trees there. I was hoping to be able to combine them with a colorful sunset!
It’s a difficult situation because the sun sets behind the mountains, to the west, and that makes the sky incredibly bright of course. The jagged contour of the mountains does not really support the use of a graduated filter, it would look just odd. I made a large number of photos with different exposure settings to be able to select the best one at home. I think it worked quite well!
