Alex and I went for a Saturday morning loop hike at Palomar Mountain. We hiked at Palomar Mountain many times but rarely do so in the actual State Park because dogs aren’t allowed on the trails there. This time we left Toni at home to check out a loop hike in Palomar Mountain State Park that Alex had found through Scott Turner, the co-author of “Afoot & Afield in San Diego County”.
We drove through the marine layer on our way up and had sunny and blue skies for most of the time, but in the shade of the tall trees in the forest and at this elevation, it was pleasantly cool and, despite the various uphill and downhill sections, very pleasant for hiking.
The dogwoods were way past their peak bloom but the Western Azalea and Thimbleberry were still very pretty. Many small flowers, especially along the Silvercrest trail, were also a delightful sight.
