After the morning stop at Mono Lake we continued further north on Highway 395. We hiked a bit at Leavitt Meadows and then drove up Sonora Pass Road. On the way back we had late lunch in Bridgeport and then briefly stopped at Dunderberg Meadows again – I was hoping to get better photos of the fall colored Aspens, backlit while the sun was still higher. The sun was a bit too low for that already actually.
The clouds that began to move in towards the end of our Red Cones hike looked promising so we went out for sunset. I had fond memories of Dunderberg Meadows and the colorful Aspen trees there. I was hoping to be able to combine them with a colorful sunset!
We spent the day after our 20 Lakes Basin hike more leisurely, at Bishop Creek Canyon, where we encountered plenty of fall colors. They worked well with the bright and sunny day, which really made the trees glow when viewed from the right angle.
A short first visit to McGee Creek, during our Mammoth vacation in October 2014.
First images from our Eastern Sierra visit in the first week of October. These are the fall colors at Dunderberg Meadows along Highway 395 near Conway Summit.
